π₯ Video Summary:
So I’m in an environment where I really can’t do a full scale video, but I still wanted to capture a couple of things for you.
If you’ve ever tried to troubleshoot dial tone coming off of an Adtran, and you’re a beginner, maybe you don’t quite understand everything there is to know about dial tone and phone blocks.
I’m just going to give a couple of quick basics. to at least get you started.
So an Adtran is simply a device that creates dial tone for you. In this situation, we’ve actually got two Adtranβs.
When you’ve got a big set of blocks and you’re trying to figure out, okay, where’s my dial tone going so I can isolate it down?
Just look at your Adtran, and you’re going to have a grey cable coming off of it, Ampenol cable. Okay. You got one off of that one and you’ve got one coming off of this one. So we trace our amphenol cables out and you’ll see it goes up to this block right here. And the Amphenol is going to be pre-terminated on the right side of this.
You can tell because this right here’s your amphenol coming in. So that’s one of the blocks.
Trace out the second cable.
And we see that weβve got the other amphenol connected here. So this block is made live all up and down the block.
So if If you’re having problems, you’re not getting dial tone all the way at the other end. One of the first thing to do is Isolate it and pull whatever interior wiring you have off of the interior pins and just leave the Adtran portion on that particular spot, and then put your butt set on that spot and see if the Adtran itself is giving you dial tone to there.
if you punch down the house wiring and all of a sudden your dial tone goes dead, then you’ll know you have a short on the house wiring side. And an Adtran has a little safety feature where if you accidentally cross two of these pins, or there’s a short in the wire, it’ll kill the port for 30 seconds.
So if you’re putting your butt set on this to test and you touch your clips together, it’s going to kill that port for 30 seconds. So check it once, count to 30, and then check it again very carefully before you decide that that port is bad. As always, let’s get you out in the field making money. I’ll see you in the next video.
